This masterclass prioritises pure sensor data and practical delivery. We dedicate focused time to true 32-bit linear High Dynamic Range (HDR) capture and tone-mapping workflows, paired with strict batch hygiene across static 360, walking video, and drone runs. You will learn to bypass heavy 3D rendering by delivering crisp, lightweight 2.5D floor plans pinned with high-fidelity 360 bubbles and video walk-throughs—hosted on open, low-cost platforms you own outright, without recurring SaaS seat licenses.

Day 1: 32-Bit Linear HDR, Capture Discipline & Batch Ingestion

(Tuesday, October 27 • 4 Hours)

  • Hour 1: 32-Bit/HDR Imaging: The Linear Sensor Pipeline
    • The physics of clipping: why 8-bit JPEG curves ruin edge contrast and obscure identification plates in deep shadow.
    • Capturing multi-bracket RAW/DNG sets in extreme high-contrast industrial settings.
    • Merging to true 32-bit linear floating-point files (.exr / .hdr) without baking in non-linear gamma curves.
    • Exposure value (EV) spacing, sensor saturation limits, and ghosting suppression for moving elements.


  • Hour 2: Tone-Mapping & Linear-to-Working-Space Development
    • Local vs. global tone-mapping: preserving metric surface legibility versus cosmetic balance.
    • Linear colour spaces, white balance consistency across brackets, and zero-loss dynamic range conservation.
    • Batch tone-mapping pipelines: applying identical radiometric calibration profiles across hundreds of survey nodes.
    • Validating output fidelity: ensuring machine-readable contrast for asset plates, pipe markings, and structural cracks.
  • Hour 3: Capture Rigs: Static 360, Walking Video & Drone Passes
    • Matching the capture method to the environment: static HDR tripods vs. walking traverses vs. aerial pathways.
    • Shutter speed limits, ISO thresholds, and managing motion blur during walking passes.
    • Stitching equirectangular spheres: eliminating parallax, optical alignment seams, and nadir blind spots.
    • Scale bars and ground control markers: establishing verifiable physical dimensions before image distribution.
  • Hour 4: Batch Renaming, Metadata & Automated Ingestion
    • Directory hierarchies designed for rapid auditing rather than generic asset dumps.

Day 2: Pre-Rendered Motion, 2.5D Mapping & Sovereign Delivery

    • Path stabilisation, horizon levelling, and smoothing camera trajectories for clean playback.
    • Encoding discipline: high-bitrate, compact H.265/AV1 streams optimized for rapid mobile and tablet loading.
  • Hour 6: The 2.5D Spatial Architecture
    • The practical power of 2.5D: why 2D CAD/vector plans tied to rich spheres beat heavy 3D models for facility maintenance.
    • Preparing floor plans, DWG/DXF exports, and georeferenced rasters as the spatial backbone.
    • Setting up coordinate matrices, multi-floor level switches, and site grid systems.
  • Hour 7: Pinned 360 Nodes & Node-to-Node Navigation
    • Hotspot plotting: orienting and pinning 32-bit derived 360 panoramas directly to floor plan coordinates.
    • Constructing intuitive node-to-node walkthrough pathways across large facility layouts.
    • Embedding contextual media: linking inspection videos, high-res detail cutouts, and equipment tags directly into pano nodes.
  • Hour 8: Self-Hosting, Low-Cost Infrastructure & Asset Updates
    • Escaping SaaS capture portals: ditching recurring monthly seats, per-project hosting fees, and locked proprietary viewers.
    • Deploying open-source web engines (MapLibre, Pannellum, Marzipano) that run locally or in any standard browser.
    • Setting up commodity cloud storage (AWS S3, Cloudflare R2, or private on-premise servers) for pennies per gigabyte.
    • Simple asset maintenance: swapping a single updated 360 node or updating a revised floor plan layer without re-rendering the whole facility.
